My morning practice is how I stopped waking up in a panic.
It’s how I stopped reaching for weed, or food, or my phone to numb myself enough to function.
It’s how I stopped beginning each day rushed, already behind, already overwhelmed, already disconnected from myself.
It taught me how to take care of myself first and that I don’t have to abandon myself to meet everyone else’s needs. Which meant I stopped over-giving, over-extending, people-pleasing, martyring, and then resenting everyone for it.
I have now had a daily devotional morning practice for over 7 years.
It healed the part of me that believed I had to earn rest.
That I had to be productive to be valuable. That being sensitive meant I was weak.
