I couldn’t access healthy anger for most of my adult life.
I was trained, like nearly every woman I know, to suppress it. My anger was not welcome, and if I got angry I was put in time-out or punished. I learned anger meant love was withdrawn.
Also, we all know that men don’t want an angry woman…angry women end up alone.
So you stuff your anger so far down you don’t even feel it anymore.
Then, one of two things happens:
1. Your body expresses it at autoimmune disease or chronic inflammation
2. You become depressed because anger not expressed outwards is turned inwards, and now you’re self-critical and stuck in a freeze or fawn response (did you know that depression is a freeze response in the nervous system?).
Reclaiming your natural, healthy anger response to a boundary violation or an act of injustice is a requirement for your mental and physical health, and for your ability to create healthy intimate relationships.
Like animals who bare their teeth when you get too close, your animal body instinct to protect yourself needs to be functional.
Without an intact “NO” that your body trusts, you won’t ever feel safe enough to be a true yes to most of the things you want more of: emotional connection, eros, aliveness, depth, authenticity, confidence.
And I hope you know, that while the work I’m offering focuses on what we can do as women to create better relationships, it’s not because I think we should have to do more, or that men are off the hook.
It’s simply that you can’t make anyone else change. Your power lies in how you show up.
Becoming the Muse is about remembering your power:
- Your power to choose ALL in
- Your power to leave
- Your power to speak your desires
- Your power to say no
- Your power to make skillful requests
- Your power to bring the eros and pleasure back
- Your power to receive more
- Your power to inspire change.
It’s a embodiment-based program where you can start to unwind the chronic freeze and fawn responses that have us struggle to feel safe inside ourselves or the world.
And when we feel safe inside ourselves, love + sex get so much easier.
Love,
Caite
